Rebel Wilson and Her Rising Star

Rebel Wilson is set to tickle the silver screen’s funny bone once again in her new comedic outing, The Hustle. A remake of a classic, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the Hustle features Wilson in the Steve Marin role and Anne Hathaway in the Michael Caine role.

It marks the second of three big pictures Wilson will be starring in this year, and is one of the reasons why the Aussie actress is the talk of the town.

Up until now Wilson has been regarded as a great supporting character. She first arrived in 2010 after deciding to try her luck in the stateside entertainment industry. A triple threat in her native Australia, Wilson was a well known star, but in the U.S. she had to begin the journey all over again.

Luckily, Rebel Wilson is a unique type and nabbed her breakout role fairly quickly. The role was in Judd Apatow’s Bridesmaids where Wilson played Kristin Wiig’s roommate Brynn. The actress immediately caught people’s attention but it was not until Pitch Perfect that Wilson gained mainstream status.

Rebel Wilson’s turn as Fat Amy effectively made her career. The role expanded into two sequels and allowed Wilson to become recognizable.

What followed was as series of memorable supporting turns in various films. On Valentine’s Day of this year that changed. Isn’t It Romantic, the rom-com stuck inside a rom-com from New Line Cinema, was Wilson’s first appearance as a headliner. The story followed the exploits of an architect named Natalie who becomes stuck in the fantasy land of romantic comedy. The movie was a success and showcased Wilson’s ability to lead a cast and carry a feature film. It also marked the first of a trifecta of films Wilson is starring in.

The Hustle is the second and loses the rom-com flair for the comedic confines of a heist film. Her final appearance will be in the film-version of Cats set to debut in December. Cats features an ensemble cast of Hollywood’s best and brightest. Wilson will be playing the role of Jennyanydots.

Rebel Wilson’s recent breakout into headlining roles has not gone unnoticed. As she is appearing in three sizable films over the course of the year news media has been a buzz about her. In addition to her acting and singing Wilson is also a writer and producer. She is also an advocate for more female driven movies as well as better pay for actresses in general.
